What is the nature of your business?

Madison Ave Media & Design is a full-service advertising agency specializing in graphic design, digital design, printing and publishing. We pride ourselves on meeting all of our customers’ advertising & marketing needs. Think of us as a “boutique agency” offering personalized service, but with the expertise and experience of a large ad agency.

How many years have you been with the company?

23 years in Sarasota. I started it in 1991 and have been a LBK Chamber Member since 1997.

What is unique or special about your business?

The individual attention I give to each client. Not only do I oversee all of our projects, but each and every one is a joint, creative effort with the client. I value client input as the project develops and evolves. I love talking to a client in depth so I can get a feel for what they want. I also have a hand-picked staff of freelancers, the best in our area, to ensure the highest quality product possible.

What are your business challenges or successes?

My personal credo is, “A referral from you is the greatest compliment I can receive.” And it’s true! Most of my work comes from referrals. Someone likes a customer’s ad or brochure, asks who did it and calls me. As for challenges, not many. Creating successful projects and campaigns has come easy, as long as you listen and satisfy your clients.

How did you get started in your career?

I studied fine arts and advertising design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where I’m originally from. When I graduated, I started my own graphics company producing unique silk screened and airbrushed clothing for major department stores in NYC . After a few years, I wanted a change, so I moved to Florida. I quickly got a job with one of the largest marketing firms in the Sarasota area, focusing on my graphic design talents. One of my first projects was the LBK Chamber Visitors Guide, which I still design and publish today. I have been proud to be working and donating my services to the LBK Chamber for years.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

Don’t take criticism personally. Always remember that advertising & marketing is a team effort and the client’s opinion is valuable. I actually welcome criticism because it opens my eyes to a new point of view. Also, make an effort to donate your time to the community. Over the years, I’ve donated design work to the Women’s Resource Center, Chowdown for Charity, veterans’ organizations (my father is a WWII vet) and neighborhood animal shelters. My work with several local Chambers of Commerce helps earn revenue for the community I love. I live here, I work here, I’m raising my family here. It’s important to give back to the place that supports you.
