The Longboat Key Education Center is a non- profit adult enrichment center which provides a wide range of education and recreation classes to residents and winter visitors to Longboat Key, as well as those who live in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Laura Taubes founded the Education Center in 1985 with the belief that continued learning keeps the mind active and the spirit young. It’s mission is to serve “all adults regardless of residence or educa- tional background.”
The Education Center is open from October through April and is divided into three terms: fall, winter and spring. There are more than 175 pro- grams offered, ranging from yoga and gigong to world politics, film festivals, iphones, birding and book clubs. All courses are non-credit, and there are
no prerequisites for admission. The center also of- fers a lecture series, performing arts series, Saturday workshops and guided day-long trips throughout Florida. Performances such as live jazz combos, theatrical productions, piano recitals and lectures from local and national speakers can be enjoyed throughout the season on a one-time basis.
The Gallery at the Education Center is open to the public and features exhibits by local artists and faculty members. The Longboat Key Education Center is celebrating 32 years in operation for the 2018 season. The tagline of the center’s logo holds true to its promise: The Longboat Key Education Center-Like College, Only Better!
